Country’s wheat production is likely to surpass the previous record of 94.88 million tonnes because of good weather conditions said Agriculture Secretary, Ashish Bahuguna.

Production of gram, mustard seed, barley may also exceed previous record,  Bahuguna said.

India is world’s second largest wheat grower and had produced record 94.88 mT in year 2011-2012 (July-June). However in year 2012-2013, the output lowered to 92.36 mT because of poor rains.

This year, the weather conditions,  soil moisture and water reservoirs are in much better condition. So the rabi winter crop prospect is good. If weather conditions remain good throughout, the wheat production should be a record this year, said Agriculture Secretary
