Japanese carmaker Nissan Motor Co. Ltd, which is set to launch the Datsun Go small car in India early next year, plans to roll out more models in the country as it expects automobile sales to pick up here after next year’s elections. The Datsun Go will be Nissan’s entry-level model in India and be priced below the Micra, its current offering in the category. The Datsun Go will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd’s Alto, the country’s best selling car, and Hyundai Motor India Ltd’s Eon and Santro. “The current slowdown in India’s automotive segment is a passing phase and sales volumes will pick up after the elections next year,” said Kenichiro Yomura, President and MD of Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd.
